What I Believe

The main points of my Christian faith

The following is a short set of statements which I believe the Bible clearly teaches regarding each subject.

The Bible

The Bible is the Word of God for mankind.
It is the only Word of God and as such is the single authority for living as a Christian.
The Bible says of itself in 2Timothy 3v16-17 :-"All scripture is inspired (breathed) by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work"

The Trinity

There is one God (Deuteronomy 6v4) who is perfect, all powerful and all knowing.
God is the creator of all things (Genesis 1v1-3, Ephesians 3v9) and He is Sovereign. (Romans 11v33-36).
There is only one God who is made up of three persons - The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit.(1st Peter 1v2)

The Cross of Jesus Christ

God the Son, Jesus, came to earth (born of a virgin, Mary) and lived a perfect life and then died on the cross to take the punishment for our sin (1st Peter 2v24). Furthermore, aAll men have sinned (Romans 3v23), inheriting a sinful nature from Adam (Romans 5v12). As such we have offended a Holy God and broken His Law.
The only way back to God is through the Lord Jesus (John 14v6). Through His sacrifice on the cross and his shed blood we can be saved (Titus 2v14). Salvation is a free gift which anyone can accept through faith (Ephesians 2v8-9)
After Jesus was raised from the dead he returned to heaven and sent the Holy Spirit to convict mankind of their need to get saved to avoid the judgement of God (John 16v8). Although we are saved by faith alone -genuine saving faith is proved by obedience to the Bible and working for the Lord (James 2v14,17)

Jesus Return

Jesus Christ is coming back to this earth - this time not as a baby in a manger but as King of the Universe (Matthew 24v30, Revelation 19v11-16).
For those who are Christians He will be coming as their Saviour and friend (1st Thessalonians 4v16) but for those who did not accept him as Lord of their lives He is coming as Judge (Matthew 25v31-46)

Ordinances of a local Church

I meet with local Christians in a local Church that, I believe, follow the New Testament model for a local church.
The Bible teaches only two ordinances - Baptism and "The Breaking of Bread" (Lord's Supper or Communion).
My local church practices these and believes that the Bible teaches only believers (those who have put their faith in the Lord Jesus) should participate in both these ordinances.
